If you want to know any information, Google is at hand. Google is so popular right now that the word "google" has even taken a place in the dictionary! Asking someone something often leads to the answer, "Google it!" But do you know how Google does the job of finding information?
It is difficult to find people who use the internet but have not heard of Google, but there are various search engines besides Google in search of information such as Yahoo, Bing, Duckduckgo, etc. These are popular for their individuality and are known as search engines. However, in terms of popularity, there is no other search engine around Google at present.
What is a Search engine?
It is good to know first, what is a search engine? We are all accustomed to using search engines for various purposes, yet many have no clear idea what the thing is. Simply put, a search engine is a type of software system that helps us find information from sites on the World Wide Web (WWW). Search engines can easily find the necessary information or website without knowing any address. This is why search engines are so important to internet users and web developers.
The power of search engines
The proliferation of Google and various search engines has resulted in a wonderful thing - we no longer have to bother with all the unnecessary information. If you need to know anything, just open Google and search, millions of results appear in a moment!
There is also another fun, even if you make a mistake in typing while searching, Google corrects it properly and shows the result. Again, you may not have a good idea on a topic, even if you search by typing something on the guess, Google will understand your mind and present the necessary information in front of you!
It takes Google less than 1 second to find out the results or to understand the mind! Browsing hundreds of billions of sites on the entire World Wide Web and extracting information in less than 1 second is certainly not an easy task! Let's take a look at how search engines do this seemingly impossible task.
3 Steps Search the info
As mentioned earlier, each search engine has its own advantages. They serve their users according to their own features. So while the search engines never completely match each other, each search engine follows 3 steps:
- Search information on the web and share a lot based on important words or keywords.
- Create an index of the words found in the search.
- Match the information that users search for with their index.
Website visits, index creation, search query matching - these complex tasks are done through some techniques.
Web Crawling
If you do a Google search, Google will show you the results, but Google will have to figure out the results first. Every search engine has a special software robot to do this. Their job is to navigate the web and record everything.

In the language of search engines, they are called "spiders". They regularly visit every link on the Internet. Each time a site is visited, it collects new links to the site and deletes lost or dead links from the server.
First, Spider collects words or keywords from various popular pages. Then follow the links to other pages on that site. Go to those pages and follow the other links there. In this way, the journey of the spider continues. The spider enters the site from time to time to see if there are any new changes.

For example, new articles are being published every day on the Ten Minute School blog, but no one has informed Google's Spider. But if you search on Google with the title of the text, you will see that the text of the Ten Minute School has come up with the results! Because Spider doesn't know about the new writings, but he does know Ten Minute School! So he regularly visits the Ten Minute School website, enriches his database by following all the links, and crawls these new articles in that space.
What is Meta Tag?
For example, Nestfy blog posts have various tags, some of which may include "reading tips", some may include "skill development" and some may include "inspirational storytelling". Meta tags also work to give such an idea, but that idea gives search engines, not us!
However, there are some problems with using meta tags. As you will often see on YouTube, video tags have all the text that has nothing to do with the content of the video! To avoid such complications, search engine spiders use a variety of techniques to match the meta tags to the internal content of the page.
What is Index?
As you may know, Spider collects information from the Internet and then stores it. As billions of websites around the world are adding countless pieces of information every moment, Spider is crawling all the time, and the index is constantly being updated. A search engine creates its index or database using the information collected by Spider. An index contains a list of different words and their URLs.
The technology of each search engine is different, the technique of creating an index is also different. Search engines determine how much importance will be given to a word on a page. Each search engine uses the same criteria to accomplish this task, so if you type a word into Google and search for the first one, it may not even appear in the first ten!
